India has achieved a major breakthrough in hypersonic propulsion technology with the successful 1000-second ground test of an active cooled scramjet engine, conducted by DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad. This milestone marks a significant leap from the previous 120-second test, showcasing India’s growing expertise in developing air-breathing engines capable of sustaining combustion at supersonic speeds. Scramjet technology is crucial for future hypersonic cruise missiles and high-speed aerospace vehicles, as it allows propulsion without moving parts while flying at speeds above Mach 6. With this achievement, India joins an elite group of nations pushing the frontiers of hypersonic research and defense capabilities.
