India has achieved a major breakthrough in hypersonic propulsion technology with the successful 1000-second ground test of an active cooled scramjet engine, conducted by DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad. This milestone marks a significant leap from the previous 120-second test, showcasing India’s growing expertise in developing air-breathing engines capable of sustaining combustion at supersonic speeds. Scramjet technology is crucial for future hypersonic cruise missiles and high-speed aerospace vehicles, as it allows propulsion without moving parts while flying at speeds above Mach 6.
