PM Modi’s Promise Delivered: Yamuna Clean-Up Drive Begins After BJP’s Victory in Delhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swiftly acted on its election promise to clean the Yamuna River. Just a week after securing victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the clean-up drive commenced on Sunday.

BJP’s Focus on Yamuna Restoration:

Cleaning the Yamuna was a key agenda during BJP’s campaign. Following a meeting between Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V K Saxena and the Chief Secretary, an urgent directive was issued to begin the clean-up. Trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and dredging units have been deployed to remove waste and silt from the river.

Four-Pronged Strategy for Cleaning Yamuna:

The initiative follows a structured plan:

Removal of WasteClearing garbage and silt from the river.
Drains Clean-Up – Cleaning major drains like Najafgarh and Supplementary Drain.
Sewage Treatment – Monitoring existing STPs and constructing new ones to address the 400 MGD sewage shortfall.
Strict Monitoring – Weekly progress checks by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

Three-Year Roadmap:
The clean-up will be executed over three years, requiring coordination between various agencies and departments that include DJB, I&FC, MCD, Environment Department, PWD, and DDA. Weekly reviews will ensure accountability.

A Step Towards a Cleaner Yamuna:
BJP’s promise to clean the river is now in motion. With proper execution and sustained efforts, this initiative could significantly improve Yamuna’s condition, setting a precedent for river restoration efforts nationwide.
