The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to induct 97 Tejas fighter aircraft at a cost of ₹62,000 crore. With this, the total number of Tejas fighter jets in service will rise to 180 aircraft. These indigenous jets will gradually replace the ageing MiG-21 fighter aircraft, enhancing operational capability and safety. Importantly, nearly 65% of the components used in the Tejas fighters are sourced domestically, marking a significant boost to the Make in India initiative and strengthening India’s defence self-reliance.
