In 2016, India’s generous gift of 88 ambulances to Sri Lanka launched a national emergency service that has since saved nearly 1.5 million lives. Today, the fleet has grown to 322 ambulances, providing free, round-the-clock emergency transport across the country.
Since its inception, the service has handled over 2.24 million emergencies, with 65% falling into the critical “golden hour” category, where timely intervention was crucial for survival.
This collaboration between India and Sri Lanka exemplifies the power of international cooperation in improving lives. Beyond Sri Lanka, India’s humanitarian efforts continue, as seen with its swift response to Myanmar’s earthquake, delivering critical relief materials and aid.
A simple gesture from India has proven to be a lifeline, demonstrating how compassion and cooperation can make a world of difference.
