India’s booming creator ecosystem is on track to drive over USD 1 trillion in annual consumer spending by 2030, according to the Boston Consulting Group’s upcoming report “From Content to Commerce: Mapping India’s Creator Economy.” Currently, digital creators already influence an estimated USD 350–400 billion in yearly expenditure. With over 2 to 2.5 million active creators—defined as those with 1,000+ followers—India is witnessing a transformative shift in how content shapes consumer decisions. Despite the impressive numbers, only 8–10% of creators are effectively monetising their content today. The creator economy, generating direct revenues of USD 20–25 billion, is expected to surge to USD 100–125 billion by the end of the decade. The report also highlights the growing impact of creators beyond Gen Z and metro cities, with increasing influence in tier 2 and tier 3 towns. Short-form videos remain the dominant format, with genres like comedy, films, daily soaps, and fashion topping the charts. As revenue streams diversify, experts foresee a 1.5 to 3x increase in earnings, signaling a fundamental shift in commerce and marketing led by India’s digital creators. The BCG report will be officially released on May 3rd, 2025, at the WAVES 2025 mega-event in Mumbai.
